Videos featured weekly in new campus building
To showcase staff and students’ creative projects, along with events at CU, the new Alliance for Technology, Learning and Society Center has unveiled its video wall.
According to Communications Coordinator Bruce Henderson, the ATLAS wall will provide footage from theater and dance performances, animations from Fiske Planetarium, CU athletic overviews, student films, and other campus events.
The video wall, which is made up of nine individual video screens measuring 50 inches diagonally, has been displaying projects throughout the past week.
Currently on rotation are shorts like “Thoughtography,” by Mark Amerika.
“I think it’s a really good opportunity,” junior studio arts major Cassie Dore said.
“I don’t even have a class [in the ATLAS building], but I like to get coffee or do my homework,” she said.
Although only portions of submissions are playing, totaling about eight hours, Henderson plans to update the wall on a weekly basis.
“I hope to see the day when there is more content than we can display,” Henderson said.
However, with the opportunity to showcase student films comes the need to watch for copyrighted images and sounds, Henderson said. Although nothing in the current rotation has been censored, it will be a possibility for the future.
“I maintain editorial control,” Henderson said.
Construction of the ATLAS building began during the spring semester of 2005. The building’s features include a two-story blackbox performance studio, a film screening room, computer classrooms and group project spaces. The 66,000 square-foot structure also offers students the opportunity to obtain a certificate in technology and the arts.
Students and staff interested in displaying creative projects should contact Henderson through his CU e-mail account: bruce.henderson@colorado.edu.
