With the Super Bowl mere days away, it’s time to get pumped up and ready for the big game. The CU Independent has compiled some tracks that are perfect for a night of football, testosterone and nacho cheese.
1. Black Eyed Peas – “Let’s Get It Started”
Starting off the party is the group that will play the 2011 halftime show. The Black Eyed Peas’ 2004 hit is a great way to get the beats pumping at any occasion. With one of the catchiest bass parts of the last decade, this song gets everyone on their feet and ready for the big night ahead.
2. Queen – “We Will Rock You”
Even though this song is over 30 years old, it is still as aggressive and as spirited as it was in the ‘70s. With its signature beat, it pumps itself up with lyrics of dominance and a commanding chant as its chorus.
3. Andrew W.K. – “Ready To Die”
Since the release of his album “I Get Wet,” Andrew W.K. has become the forerunner in blending metal and party music into one distinct genre. His song “Ready to Die” is a testosterone-infused jam, all about kicking ass, that will make even the most modest person people their heads in excitement.
4. Wiz Khalifa – “Black and Yellow”
It’s almost as if Wiz Khalifa planned to release this in time to coincide with the Steelers’ big season. “Black and Yellow,” Khalifa’s personal love letter to his hometown of Pittsburgh, is a catchy beat that can get even the biggest Packers fans chanting the chorus. So much so that Packers fan Lil Wayne dropped his remix “Green and Yellow” Tuesday.
5. Zombie Nation – “Kernkraft 400”
A staple of every football stadium, “Kernkraft 400” is the most popular song you never knew you knew. More commonly known as “that song with all the oh’s,” the techno track nostalgically reminds listeners of experiencing the excitement of a football game in person.
6. T.I. – “Bring ‘Em Out”
Atlanta rapper T.I.’s song “Bring ‘Em Out” has become a classic go-out-and-win-it track since its release in 2004. Its aggressive beat and cocky lyrics make the perfect combination for a game-starting song.
7. Thin Lizzy – “The Boys Are Back in Town”
Bound to be heard on at least one beer commercial this Super Bowl, Thin Lizzy’s “The Boys Are Back in Town” is the definition of a classic high-fiving, feel-good track.
8. Survivor – “Eye of the Tiger”
Bringing to mind images of Stallone running around Philadelphia, “Eye of the Tiger” is a great pump-up track for any athletic event. Survivor mixes cool, funky guitar parts with driving riffs, which raises the adrenaline to an all-time high.
9. Europe – “The Final Countdown”
Yes, the song is incredibly cheesy. Yes, Europe may be the worst band alive. But that doesn’t hinder “The Final Countdown” from being one of the most epic songs ever. Taking synthesizer to new frontiers, this song is an incredibly catchy, hair metal jam that brings out the aggression in any of its listeners.
