As October came to a close the population at CU became a lot more…well, hairy. Five o’clock shadows turned to beards. No-shave November is the perfect excuse for guys to unleash the mountain man within. Even girls can participate, European style.
There are many students who are in full support of this unique month-long holiday.
“It’s more convenient because it takes 15 minutes off my morning,” said Craig Spalding, an 18-year-old freshman film and humanities major.
Many people praise No-shave November for how effortless it is. The average man will spend 140 days of his life shaving, according to no-shave-november.com.
“I’m participating in No-shave November because razors are too expensive,” said Ben Seaman, an 18-year-old freshman environmental design major.
The variations in the speed that hair grows on different people can be fascinating. Some students on campus are barely showing patches after the 30 days, while others have faces that quickly disappear.
“I want to see if I can grow a beard,” said Alexander Pillsbury, a 19-year-old freshman business major.
There are also students who make the holiday their own personal statement.
“Well now that the terrorist scare is down I feel people can embrace No-shave November,” said Anthony Elio, an 18-year-old freshman English major.
No-shave November can even be a declaration for a good cause for some people.
“I am not shaving in the month of November for the people of Darfur,” said Luis Alvarado, a 20-year-old freshman English major.
According to funtrivia.com, Hans Langseth from Norway grew the longest beard ever recorded. It measured a remarkable 17 feet, 6 inches long.
