Broomfield’s minor league hockey team sure to please
Picture standing in a cold area watching a Colorado hockey team dominate the ice. The crowd is buzzing and you are holding a large Styrofoam finger.
Now – picture all the money you saved not going to an Avalanche game.
The Rocky Mountain Rage is Broomfield’s very own minor league hockey team. Part of the Central Hockey League, the Rocky Mountain Rage has rocked the 2007-2008 Season and is currently first in the Northwest Division
For only 30 dollars a game, why not go support a homegrown Colorado hockey team that won’t disappoint?
The Rocky Mountain Rage’s home rink is at the new Broomfield Event Center (as of Nov. 2006), where they play nearly every Friday and Saturday night at 7:05 p.m. sharp.
The team’s regular season started on October 19 and officially ends on March 22 and includes 32 home games. Rocky Mountain Rage’s schedule can be found by clicking on http://www.rockymountainrage.com/schedule/games/.
Jennifer Reifman, Director of Game Entertainment and Community Relations at the Broomfield Event Center is excited to watch the team as they continue to lead their division.
“Last year we were last in the division and now we are first,” Reifman said. “The team has really turned it around.”
The team consists of 20 players, all between their early twenties and thirties. Some are new recruits, and some are retired NHL players.
“The team was completely restructured this year,” Reifman said. “Only four players returned from last year. The coach did a great job finding players who are really devoted to hockey.”
New Rocky Mountain Rage defenseman Rob Chappell, writes a blog on www.yourhub.com in order to keep fans updated while the team is on the road.
His blog, entitled, “Chappell Player Diary,” highlights the ups and downs of the team.
Chappell’s diary is indicative of the team spirit that has encompassed Rocky Mountain Rage since the start of the new season.
“We started out a three day road trip in Colorado to face the Eagles, next were a Friday game versus Tulsa, and ended with a Saturday contest against the Texas Brahmas,” Chappell said in his blog. “I, like most guys, thought if we went two for three we would be doing well, but the goal as always was keep winning hockey games.”
Fans and administrators agree-the most exciting games get going when Rocky Mountain Rage plays the Eagles, another Colorado team.
“Rivalry is always fun,” Reifman said. “This year, in the Northwest Division the Rocky Mountain Rage has 25 points and the Colorado Eagles only have 18.”
Rocky Mountain Rage plays the Colorado Eagles January 19 at the Broomfield Event Center.
Other games not to miss? On December 7th the Rage plays the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs.
