Year-round stores still hot-spots for holiday shopping
With Halloween right around the corner, costume stores are springing up all around Boulder.
There are a variety of places to choose from when looking for the right Halloween costume, from the seasonal Black Widow Halloween Store to The Ritz, which is open all year.
Black Widow Halloween Store is located on Arapahoe and 28th Street near Safeway, in the same spot as last year.
The store offers a variety of costumes and props for the upcoming holiday.
The store will stay open until Nov. 3 and is already crowded with people looking for Halloween items.
“It’s fun to play for a month out of the year and be different,” said Erica Wenzel, a manager at Black Widow.
Star Wars costumes have been in high demand as well as the sexy costumes for women, Wenzel said.
While Black Widow is only open for a few months out of the year, The Ritz caters to the dress-up crowd no matter what season.
The Ritz is located on Walnut near 9th Street and is open all year.
“We’re busy year round,” said Marilyn Vranka, a manger at The Ritz. “Half of business is costumes for crazy holidays through the year.”
While Halloween creates 30 percent of sales, The Ritz also receives big business from holidays like Cinco de Mayo, Christmas and school events.
According to Vranka, the most popular costumes for men and women this year are based on movies, especially “Pirates of the Caribbean.”
Some other popular costumes for men include “Blades of Glory” suits and the robe of a certain Playboy Magazine founder.
“Lots of guys want to pimp out as Hugh Hefner,” Vranka said.
This year women are enjoying a new twist to the ever-popular sexy costumes — childhood memories.
Classic characters such as Strawberry Shortcake and fairies have been turned into adult costumes with an extra sexy twist for Halloween this year.
With only two weeks left before Halloween, it is best to go out and find that perfect costume before they are all gone for the season.
