This week’s episode was about directions. Our heroes must make decisions about what to do with themselves and with their powers. Do they fight to do the right thing or do they try to escape their powers and the consequences that come with them?
Peter Petrelli is being hunted by a blond woman who can control electricity. However, his Irish Mob buddy Ricky has gotten wind of the huntress and put him under protection, hiding him with Caitlin, his sister and Peter’s lover.
At Caitlin’s apartment, Peter opens the mysterious box containing all of his secrets, learning his name but little else. The box included some cash, Peter’s passport, a photo of Peter and Nathan and an airline ticket to Montreal.
At this point Peter has an episode of Isaac’s ability to paint the future. As Peter and his new love interest try to interpret the painting they learned that Ricky was killed — burnt to a crisp.
Ricky’s death is only a lure, though, and the blond woman is ready to spring her trap when she is recalled. Her phone conversation revealed that the person giving the orders is her father.
Is she working for The Company, or is there yet another group bent on controlling or killing the heroes? We still don’t know what happened to Peter’s memory or how he got the plane tickets and passport. If he had them with him during the explosion the items should have been destroyed. Someone has placed Peter where he is intentionally and wants him to go to Montreal.
Peter is fighting.
Matt Parkman is on a mission to rescue Molly from his father’s mental grip and Nathan Petrelli joins him in an attempt to save his mother’s life. However, once they reach his Philadelphia apartment there are indications that the Parkman senior may be the next victim, not Molly’s mental attacker.
However, it’s a trap, Matt’s father has the same mind-reading power as Matt, but developed them far beyond Matt’s simple abilities.
Parkman senior traps them in their own minds in a back room. Matt believes he is in a jail cell while Nathan finds himself in the destroyed city from the first season. The situation is manipulated so that they begin fighting. Eventually Matt realizes what is happening and uses his own powers to end the “nightmare,” finally understanding what is happening to Molly and what happened to his mother and Hiro’s father. They discover that the next victim is probably Bob, Mohinder’s boss.
Matt and Nathan are fighting.
Monica realized something was happening to her, that she too is a hero, a “muscle-mimic,” but doesn’t quite get it yet. Micah witnesses an episode of his cousin learning something just by watching it happen and explains about the family powers, including his father’s ability to walk through walls.
Monica seems well on her way to accepting her powers and deciding to do something with them, but Mohinder shows up with promises of helping her understand her new abilities.
Monica is fighting.
Ando finds that some of the messages from Hiro are too degraded to read, so he brings them to a museum restoration specialist who finds the notes relatively easy to restore. We learn that Hiro’s plan to restore the timeline where Takezo Kensei becomes a legend is working, but Hiro isn’t happy about losing the girl.
The trio is about to attack an army, an event that becomes one of the legends.
Hiro and Ando are fighting.
It turns out Niki’s “illness” isn’t the virus, she believes she has multiple personality disorder and wants it gone, to get rid of Jessica.
Jessica is not gone (as was previously believed) and Niki has decided it’s time to get rid of her departed twin. Jessica isn’t going easily, though, attacking Bob.
Mohinder, newly armed with a Taser, saved Bob’s life. Which might not have been a good idea.
Jessica is running
Back in New York, Molly’s body is failing as she is trapped in her nightmare. Mohinder was so worried he decided to take her to “The Company.” While Molly is under their medical care Mohinder is given an assignment to bring in a new person and a Taser and expressly told to use it if the target resists. Happily his target, Monica, is cooperative.
Mohinder’s greatest weakness seems to be his capacity for trust. He trusted Sylar and barely made it out alive. Now he trusts The Company, which he already knows has bad intentions. Mohinder seriously needs a good dose of skepticism when it comes to assuming everyone is doing the right thing.
Mohinder is running.
Previews for next week reveal that The Company is planning on using the virus for their own purposes. We see both Niki/Jessica and Monica approached with needles. It seems likely The Company plans on using the virus to eliminate powers from those they cannot control or do not want, The Company wants a monopoly on people with these talents.
