Political science major spearheads open-mic comedy night
Some jokes are dirty, some jokes are clean, and some jokes just aren’t funny.
Still, most can agree that a little laughter is important.
Every Wednesday night, Cafe Babu is filled with laughter as Dan Enfield, a senior political science major hosts a new open-mic night comedy show.
Ullas Morales, Babu’s manager, thinks the comedy show brings a lot to the atmosphere of the college town.
“I love it — I think it’s so valuable for the Hill,” Morales said. “There’s nothing else like it here. It creates a friendly, wonderful, and positive energy.”
Enfield’s idea to create the show came as a way to demonstrate his own uniqueness.
“You have to be an egomaniac to be a comedian,” Enfield said. “You have to believe that when you get on stage, no matter what your jokes are, you have the power to make the people laugh. I have always been an attention monger, so being a comedian was the next extension of that.”
Enfield put a lot of time and effort into developing the show. He started from scratch and found a venue, promoted it aggressively, and helped build the stage.
