Pop band sells in an hour for special performance
The popular indie-rock group The Killers announced Monday that they will open their upcoming tour with a special fan appreciation concert at the Fox Theatre in Boulder, on Sept. 3.
When tickets went on sale today at 10 a.m. for the intimate show, the vast number of people trying to buy their tickets at once overloaded the Fox Theatre’s ticket vendor site causing it to crash.
In response to the crash of its online system, the Fox Theatre recommended to eager The Killers fans that they go to Albums on the Hill across the street from the venue to purchase their tickets in person.
At 10:30 a.m., the line to get tickets stretched from the entrance of Albums on the Hill to Abo’s pizza, several stores away.
According to John Caprio, General Manager of the Fox Theatre, the coveted tickets sold out only one hour after going on sale.
“When a band like that comes to play here, we hold 650 people. There’s only so much we can do,” Caprio said. “We did our best to make sure everyone got tickets in the two-day turnaround time from when we heard they were doing the show.”
Customers were limited to two tickets each. Kate Sandler, a freshman integrative physiology major, arrived at Albums on the Hill at 8:40 a.m. and waited in line for an hour and 20 minutes to get her ticket. Sandler, a big fan of The Killers, will also be attending their show at Red Rocks the following day.
“I plan on being in the front row. It’s the only way to go,” Sandler said.
Andy Schneidkraut, owner of Albums on the Hill, is also optimistic and unsurprised by the crowds.
“Well, they sold out Red Rocks, a much larger venue,” he said. “Now you’ll be able to see them at the Fox with 600 of your closest friends. Yeah I think it’ll be a sweet show.”
