21 Celebrities With the Most Kids, Ranked (and the Real Record Holder Nobody Mentions)

Table of Contents

Ask people which celebrity has the most kids, and you’ll get the same two or three guesses almost every time.

An actor. Maybe a musician. Somebody with a famously big family they half-remember from a talk show.

Honestly, the answer depends on how strict you are with the word “celebrity.”

Among people still working and still recognizable today, it’s the Duggars, and it isn’t close.

But I spent a good chunk of time on this one, going down a rabbit hole into a 1950s blues musician almost nobody under 40 has heard of, and by every documented account, he makes every name on this list look tame.

We’ll get there. First, the list most people are actually searching for.

Quick Answer: The Celebrity With the Most Kids Right Now

Short on time? Here’s the top five before the full rundown.

Rank Celebrity Children Category
1 Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar 19 Reality TV
2 Kody Brown 18 Reality TV
3 DMX 15 Music
4 Elon Musk 14 Business
5 Mia Farrow 14 Acting

Those five sit at the top of the “modern celebrity” ranking. But keep reading, because there’s a name later in this piece that outranks every single one of them by a wide margin.

How I Ranked This List

A “most kids” ranking is only as trustworthy as the sourcing underneath it, so here’s what I actually used to build this one.

  1. Only children confirmed through court records, official family statements, or reporting from outlets like People, TODAY, and Variety made the count.
  2. Biological and legally adopted children both count. Rumored or unconfirmed kids get a mention in the text but don’t get added to the total.
  3. Stepchildren aren’t part of the core number unless they were legally adopted.
  4. These figures reflect where things stood as of August 2026. A couple of these families are still growing, and one is in the middle of a paternity dispute in court right now, so don’t be shocked if this list looks a little different a year from now.

On to the ranking, starting with the biggest modern celebrity family.

Celebrities With the Most Kids

From TLC royalty to old Hollywood, here’s every name, ranked from most children to fewest.

1. Jim Bob & Michelle Duggar: 19 Children

There isn’t really a runner-up in the reality TV space when it comes to sheer numbers. The Arkansas couple built this.

  • Michelle gave birth to 19 children between 1988 and 2009, including two sets of fraternal twins
  • The family starred first in “19 Kids and Counting,” then in “Counting On”
  • All 19 children have names starting with the letter J, and were largely homeschooled
  • Jim Bob and Michelle are now grandparents more than 40 times over, with their 41st grandchild arriving in March 2026

Quick catch-up on a serious update for anyone following the family closely: in March 2026, Joseph Duggar was arrested and charged with lewd and lascivious behavior involving a minor, tied to an incident reported to have occurred during a 2020 family vacation.

That’s separate from the older, well-documented 2015 scandal involving eldest son Josh. Both are part of the public record here.

Children: 19

2. Kody Brown: 18 Children

Four plural marriages are a very different math problem than the one-marriage households most of this list comes from, and the “Sister Wives” patriarch’s numbers show it.

  • Kody has one child with first wife Meri, six each with Janelle and Christine, and two with current wife Robyn
  • He also legally adopted Robyn’s three children from a previous relationship
  • His son Garrison died in March 2024, one of the hardest storylines the family has dealt with on camera
  • Only Robyn remains legally and spiritually married to Kody after Meri, Janelle, and Christine all separated from him

Children: 18

3. DMX (Earl Simmons): 15 Children

DMX’s family came together across a long list of relationships, and honestly the paternity questions never fully stopped, even after he passed in 2021.

  • DMX had four children with ex-wife Tashera Simmons during their marriage
  • He fathered additional children with several other partners, including Yadira Borrego and Desiree Lindstrom
  • His youngest child, Exodus, was born in 2016
  • DMX himself claimed as many as 17 kids across roughly 10 mothers during his lifetime, though 15 is the figure that’s been consistently confirmed

Children: 15

4. Elon Musk: 14 Children

This is the one number on the whole list that might be out of date by the time you read this. Musk has fathered children with four different women, and the count has climbed almost every year for a while now.

  • Musk shares six children with ex-wife Justine Wilson, including a son who died in infancy, twins, and a set of triplets
  • He has three children with musician Grimes and four with Neuralink executive Shivon Zilis
  • A 14th child, a son named Romulus, was confirmed through a paternity test with writer Ashley St. Clair, and Musk filed for full custody of the boy in January 2026, a case TODAY reported is still working through the courts
  • Musk has tied his family size directly to his public “pronatalist” views on falling birth rates; biographer Walter Isaacson has said Musk believes people should have far more children than they currently do

Children: 14

5. Mia Farrow: 14 Children

Of everyone on this list, Farrow’s family is the one that sticks with me most. Ten adopted kids on top of four biological ones, built over decades, mostly out of the tabloid spotlight compared to some of the names above her.

  • Farrow has four biological children and ten adopted children
  • Her biological children include twins Matthew and Sascha, son Fletcher, and journalist Ronan Farrow
  • Three of her children have died, including Lark in 2008 and Thaddeus in 2016
  • Farrow has spoken openly in recent years about grief within a family this large

Children: 14

6. Duane “Dog” Chapman: 13 Children

Six relationships, and the gap between his oldest and youngest kids is wide enough to span a generation on its own.

  • His children range in age from their 50s down to their 20s
  • Chapman is father to nine sons and four daughters
  • A 13th child, Jon, was revealed publicly in 2022, decades after his birth
  • Several of his children have appeared alongside him on his reality shows over the years

Children: 13

7. Nick Cannon: 12 Children

Nick Cannon wearing a gray plaid suit and pink shirt posing at an event with a branded white backdrop behind him

Six mothers, and Cannon’s been more open about the whole arrangement publicly than almost anyone else on this list.

  • His twins, Moroccan and Monroe, were born during his marriage to Mariah Carey
  • He has three children, each with Brittany Bell and Abby De La Rosa, plus more with Bre Tiesi, LaNisha Cole, and Alyssa Scott
  • His son Zen, born in 2021 with Alyssa Scott, died of brain cancer at five months old
  • Netflix greenlit an untitled docuseries following his family life, set to premiere in winter 2026

If you’re the kind of person who tracks this stuff, some of Cannon’s kids also have names strange enough to land on our roundup of celebrity baby names people still talk about, right alongside a few other names on this very list.

Children: 12

8. George Foreman: 12 Children

Foreman has the single strangest naming habit on this entire list, hands down. He died on March 21, 2025, at age 76, after decades of sticking to it.

  • Foreman had five sons, all named George Edward Foreman, plus seven daughters across five marriages
  • He said the shared name reflected how close he wanted his sons to be with each other
  • His daughter Freeda died in 2019, meaning 11 of his 12 children survived him
  • He raised this family while running both a boxing career and, later, a grilling and business empire

Children: 12

9. Marlon Brando: 11 Children

Three marriages, plus other relationships along the way, and one of the darker footnotes on this entire list.

  • Brando had children with Anna Kashfi, Movita Castaneda, and Tarita Teriipaia
  • He adopted two more children, including his longtime assistant’s daughter, Petra
  • His son Christian pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter after a highly publicized 1990 shooting death connected to his half-sister Cheyenne
  • Some biographers believe Brando may have fathered children beyond the 11 confirmed

Children: 11

10. Charlie Chaplin: 11 Children

Chaplin was still having kids in his 70s. Four marriages spanning several decades will do that.

  • His youngest children were born when Chaplin was in his 70s
  • His marriage to Oona O’Neill produced the largest share of his children
  • Several of his children, including Geraldine Chaplin, followed him into acting
  • His final marriage, to O’Neill in 1943, lasted until his death in 1977

Children: 11

11. Bob Marley: 11 Children

Marley’s official family tree lists 11 children across several relationships, mostly in Jamaica, though even that number has some asterisks next to it.

  • Marley had children with his wife, Rita Marley, and with several other partners
  • His son Ziggy and daughter Cedella both built their own successful music careers
  • Some biographers believe Marley may have fathered more children than officially documented
  • His family still manages his music catalog and business legacy today

Children: 11

12. Mel Gibson: 9 Children

Seven kids in his first marriage, then two more much later in life. Gibson’s oldest and youngest could plausibly be father and grandchild, based on the age gap alone.

  • Gibson and ex-wife Robyn Moore had seven children together
  • He had a daughter with former partner Oksana Grigorieva
  • His ninth child, Lars, was born in January 2017 with partner Rosalind Ross
  • His oldest and youngest children are separated by roughly four decades

Children: 9

13. Alec Baldwin: 8 Children

Baldwin’s numbers took off after his second marriage, to Hilaria Baldwin, in a way most second marriages on this list don’t.

  • His oldest child, Ireland, was born during his marriage to Kim Basinger
  • He and Hilaria have welcomed seven more children since marrying in 2012
  • Two of the couple’s children were born via surrogate
  • The family’s TLC series, “The Baldwins,” aired eight episodes in early 2025, following them through the Rust manslaughter trial

Children: 8

14. Clint Eastwood: 8 Children

Eastwood is probably the most private name on this entire list. Eight kids, six mothers, spanning several decades, and almost none of it played out in public.

  • His children range in age from their 20s to their 60s
  • His eight children were born to six different mothers
  • Several of his children have worked in film or music
  • Eastwood has largely avoided discussing his family publicly despite its size

Children: 8

15. Marie Osmond: 8 Children

Osmond has called motherhood one of the proudest parts of her life, and she’s said it enough times that it clearly isn’t just a talking point.

  • Osmond has both biological and adopted children
  • Her son Michael died in 2010, a loss she’s discussed publicly since
  • She remarried her first husband, Stephen Craig, in 2011
  • She’s spoken often about balancing a performing career with a large family

Children: 8

16. Kevin Costner: 7 Children

Three separate relationships, and Costner’s approach to fatherhood reads as fairly hands-on for someone with his schedule.

  • He has three children with his first wife, Cindy Silva
  • He shares one son, Liam, with former partner Bridget Rooney
  • He and ex-wife Christine Baumgartner share three more children
  • His son Hayes has appeared onscreen alongside him in recent projects

Children: 7

17. Steven Spielberg: 7 Children

Spielberg’s blended family spans two marriages, and by his own account, fatherhood mattered to him just as much as any film on his résumé.

  • He has one son, Max, from his first marriage to Amy Irving
  • He and wife Kate Capshaw share several biological and adopted children
  • He is also stepfather to Capshaw’s daughter, actor Jessica Capshaw
  • Spielberg has described fatherhood as central to his life outside of filmmaking

Children: 7

18. Kris Jenner: 6 Children

Jenner basically built a media empire out of the family she raised, which is its own kind of unusual on this list.

  • She had four children, including Kim and Khloé, with her late husband Robert Kardashian
  • She had two more children, Kendall and Kylie, during her marriage to Caitlyn Jenner
  • She’s said she once specifically hoped for a family of six
  • She now manages the business careers of several of her children

Children: 6

19. Angelina Jolie: 6 Children

Jolie’s family blends adoption and biological children in close to equal measure, which isn’t the pattern anywhere else on this list.

  • She adopted her eldest children, Maddox and Zahara, before her relationship with Brad Pitt
  • She and Pitt adopted their son Pax together in 2007
  • The couple had three biological children, including twins Knox and Vivienne
  • Jolie’s humanitarian work has stayed connected to some of her children’s birth countries

Children: 6

20. Gordon Ramsay: 5 Children

Somewhere between running multiple restaurants and hosting several shows, Ramsay still finds time to be, by most accounts, a genuinely present dad.

  • He and his wife, Tana, have five children spanning nearly two decades
  • Four of their children are adults, while their youngest, Oscar, was born in 2019
  • Several of his children have appeared on his cooking shows
  • Ramsay has talked about wanting his kids to learn the value of hard work, restaurant-floor honesty included

Children: 5

21. Sylvester Stallone: 5 Children

Two of Stallone’s three marriages produced kids, and this one closes out the list on a genuinely sad note.

  • He had two sons, Sage and Seargeoh, during his first marriage
  • He and his wife, Jennifer Flavin, have three daughters: Sophia, Sistine, and Scarlet
  • His son Sage died in 2012
  • His daughters have appeared together publicly, including at an awards show

Children: 5

The Real Answer: Screamin’ Jay Hawkins Had Far More Kids Than Anyone Above

Here’s the thing nearly every “celebrity with the most kids” list skips, and it’s the answer that actually settles the question.

Screamin’ Jay Hawkins, the blues and shock-rock performer best known for writing “I Put a Spell on You,” fathered somewhere between 33 and 75 children over his lifetime. Even the low end of that range beats every name on the list above, including the Duggars.

His biographer, Maral Nigolian, put the confirmed number at 57 after his death in 2000, based on his own statements.

She later tracked down and verified 33 of his children directly, some of whom met each other for the first time at a 2001 reunion she organized, a story NPR covered in detail.

Hawkins himself once said on tape that the real number was closer to 75, spread across six marriages and, by all accounts, a great many relationships outside of them.

None of his children attended his funeral in Paris. Most of them didn’t know the others existed until Nigolian’s search turned up hundreds of people claiming a connection to him. It’s a strange, sad footnote to a genuinely influential career, one that shaped everyone from Nina Simone to Creedence Clearwater Revival, who both covered his best-known song.

So if the question is “which celebrity has ever had the most kids,” Hawkins is the real answer, not the Duggars. If the question is “which working, publicly known celebrity family has the most kids today,” the Duggars still take it. Both answers are true at once, which is why this list gets confusing fast.

Not every celebrity family on our radar is about volume, either.

Sometimes the story is about a smaller family shaped by tragedy and loss, like the one we told in our piece on Kobe Bryant’s wife and daughters, which is a completely different kind of family story than anything on this list.

Why Do So Many Celebrities Have Large Families?

A handful of patterns explain almost every name on this list.

  • Multiple marriages and blended families: Alec Baldwin, Mel Gibson, and Clint Eastwood all added children across separate relationships, which pushes totals higher than a single marriage usually would.
  • Reality TV built around family size: The Duggars and the Browns turned a large household into the premise of their shows, rewarding a bigger family rather than just happening to have one.
  • Adoption and humanitarian work: Mia Farrow and Angelina Jolie both grew their families in part through international adoption, tied closely to causes they’ve championed publicly.
  • Personal or ideological beliefs about family size: Elon Musk has been vocal about wanting to counter falling birth rates, and he’s cited that pronatalist stance as a reason behind his own growing family.

Biological vs. Adopted Children: How the Numbers Break Down

A few names on this list built families that lean heavily, or entirely, on adoption.

Mia Farrow: 4 biological, 10 adopted

Angelina Jolie: 3 biological, 3 adopted

Marlon Brando: at least 9 biological, 2 adopted

Marie Osmond: a mix of biological and adopted, though the exact split isn’t fully public

Elon Musk, Nick Cannon, DMX, Kody Brown, and the Duggars: all children reported as biological

The math looks different family to family, but parenthood has become part of the public identity for pretty much everyone on this list either way.

Conclusion

None of these families got this large by accident. Multiple marriages, adoption, reality TV, and in at least one case, a genuine ideology about birth rates, all played a part.

The most accurate answer to the original question splits in two, honestly. Among people still in the public eye today, it’s Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, with Kody Brown close behind. Go back a few decades, though, and the real record belongs to a blues musician most casual fans have never heard of.

Musk’s family is still growing. Kody Brown’s is still working through the fallout of three marriages ending. Don’t be shocked if this list looks different a year from now.
