As November approaches its end, facial hair—particularly mustaches—fill out the faces of University of Colorado Boulder students participating in Movember, a movement to raise awareness of men’s health.
Men across the campus and across the world begin the month cleanly shaved. As the month progresses, men use their ‘Mo’ to start conversations about male related issues including testicular and prostate cancer, as well as mental health.
According to the Movember Foundation, the movement began in 2003 in Melbourne, Australia. Twenty-one countries participate, and $446 million has been raised so far. Friends, family, and those who hear about the cause can choose to donate at http://us.movember.com/donate.
“I always thought it sounded like a fun thing to do. We have a kind of team going in my fraternity,” said junior mechanical engineering major J.D. Osborn, 20. “It was a good way for me to help out with a good cause. A lot of people ask about it so you can tell them about it that way.
