MUSIC
Why?’s “Mumps etc”
The Cincinnati-based folk-rap group will release their anticipated fifth full-length album on Anticon on Tuesday. If spoken word over intricate guitar, bass and drums is your type of music, check out Why?’s latest.
MOVIES
“Wuthering Heights”
Andrea Arnold takes a fresh look at the classic by Emily Bronte. Set on the windswept moors of England, the film follows the complex relationships between a boy and his foster family from childhood to adulthood. “Wuthering Heights” comes out Friday.
TELEVISION
“30 Rock”
What will happen to the gang this year? That was the question posed by Kim Jong Il in season six’s season finale. On Thursday, that question will finally be answered. Catch the season seven premiere at 7 p.m. on NBC.
“Saturday Night Live”
This week’s “SNL” host and musical guest are a British dream team: Muse will support James Bond himself, Daniel Craig. Craig is promoting the latest James Bond film, “Skyfall,” out Nov. 9, so you can bet that there will be at least one sketch about the British spy. The show starts at 10:35 p.m.
NIGHTLIFE
CU Independent Bar Hop
Join you favorite student journalists for a Pearl Street bar hop this Wednesday from 9 p.m. to midnight. Catch drink specials at Conor O’Neill’s from 9-10 p.m., Absinthe House from 10-11 p.m. and The Attic from 11 p.m. to midnight. Wristbands are available Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in the UMC for $5.
Ladies Night @ Absinthe House with the CUI
Thursday is Ladies Night at Absinthe House. DJ Petey is spinning and buying the ladies drinks from 9 p.m. to midnight. For the gentlemen, there are drink specials all night long. Come meet the CUI team and regale in stories from the CUI bar hop the night before.
LECTURES
Tim Wise @ Macky Auditorium
The well-known anti-racist writer and educator will address CU students, faculty, staff and the community at Macky Auditorium on Tuesday at 7 p.m. He has covered comparative racism, race and education, racism and religion and racism in the labor market at past events. Free student tickets are available at the UMC across from Baby Doe’s from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday and Tuesday. Community members can get $5 tickets, which can be purchased through Macky’s website.
THEATER
“Noises Off”
Combine a terrible acting troupe with a “comedy” play that includes on-stage half-nudity and no talent, and you get a night of laughs from “Noises Off.” The comedy is showing at University Theater Oct. 3-7, at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday. Tickets start at $8 and are available through the University Theater box office.
