There are more than a couple things to celebrate this week. Between St. Patty’s Day, Spring Break being oh-so-close and the arrival of spring (soon, anyways), we Boulderites deserve a little reward for all our hard work.
Balawan– the fastest guitar in Indonesia at Old Main
Come experience Indonesian guitar virtuoso I Wayan Balawan as he plays his double neck guitar in Batuan Ethnic fashion. Brought to us by the Center for Asian Studies, this event is free and happens in Old Main, starting at 7:30 p.m.
Program Council presents: Otis Heat in Club 156
SXSW (South by Southwest) is happening this week and Otis Heat will be heading down to Austin, Texas to be a part of it. Come hear them and send them off in Club 156 for $5 in advance ($7 at the door). The music starts at 8:45 p.m.
Trike Night at the Dark Horse
We’ve featured this before but it’s so gosh darn awesome, we couldn’t resist throwing it out there again. At 9 p.m. get on your trike and race around the bar. It’s probably the best time you could have on a Tuesday night and with $3 Jager, $7 Bud/Bud Light pitchers and $2.50 Smirnoff, we’re completely sold.
CU Independent: Countdown to St. Patty’s at Shooters
Come get down with the real student news source: Us! The CU Independent is hosting another fun-filled night at Shooters with prizes and deals galore. Wear your green and be ready for music by DJ Petey, green beer and jello shots. This event is 18-and-up, so if you’re not 21 yet, don’t worry; we’ll have free non-alcoholic drinks for you. See y’all there!
Program Council presents: Trevor Hall at Old Main
Before you check out Trevor Hall, read the CU Independent’s interview with him on Tuesday! The All-American singer, lyricist and guitarist brings his act to Boulder before playing down in Denver. Tickets are $10 for students only, so get them early! The music starts at 7:30 p.m.
Thursday- St. Patrick’s Day
You’ll be hard pressed to go anywhere that’s not celebrating St. Patty’s in some way or another. After all, everyone’s Irish on this green, beer-infused day. Here are just a few highlights:
The token Irish bar in town has it all: Irish dancers, bagpipers, and Mumbouli for the ears, $3 carbombs and $2 Bud bottles for the belly. They’ll of course have Guinness and Jameson if you’re really in the Irish mood.
Starting at an early (or not) 1 p.m. the Walrus will have 75 cent Killian drafts ‘til 6 p.m., $1 Jello shots, $4 carbombs and DJ Petey starting at 9 p.m.
The West End Tavern
Head west and take advantage of the pot ‘o gold specials: $3 Dirty Girl Scouts, Car bomb slushies, Irish Whiskey Shake and more. Irish Dancers will be there too, so don’t miss it!
The Infamous Stringdusters and Greensky Bluegrass at the Fox
Get ready for a night so full of bluegrass, you’ll see blue after leaving the show. Two of the industry’s best bluegrass bands together for one night at the Fox. Tickets are $18, plus another $2 if under 21. Get there at 8:30 p.m. for a good spot.
From everyone at the CU Independent, have a fun and safe spring break!
