CU-Boulder’s LEEDS School of Business is now offering students and members of the general public certificates in renewable energy with a program called RETool: Opportunities in the New Energy Economy.
The program consists of four courses that last one day each and are about a month apart.
Some students said they see the new program as essential due to the increase of interest in renewable energy.
“It is a very new worldly and progressive approach to a time when renewable energy is a necessary commodity for everyday life,” said Phillip Adams, a freshman integrative physiology major.
Some students said they believe that the information the program offers could help in using alternative energy sources.
“It is important to educate people on renewable energy because we need to eventually wean ourselves off of foreign oil dependency,” said John Maynard, a freshman open-option major.
People who participate in RETool learn about the cost, sustainability, and use of renewable energy sources.
The program also touches on national policies concerning these technologies and how they fit into today’s society.
One of the unique features of this program is that it is available to the general public, not just students of the business school.
Other students said they believe that the program could complement other courses offered in the LEEDS School of Business.
“The way we do business needs to reflect the way we want to live in the future,” said Christian Frank, a sophomore psychology student.
The RETool program’s fall session lasts through Dec. 3 and is still open for registration.
Thanks to popular demand, the programs organizers have allowed any members of the community to register.
“We decided to organize RETool based on a lot of interest from the outside community” said Alison Peters, who oversees the program. “It is available to anyone who wants to participate.”
