The fires that took place in the Apartments on 55th Street and Arapahoe Avenue on Nov. 15, 2008 have been successfully investigated and the twelve apartments that were burned to the ground are currently being reconstructed.
“They ended up deciding to tear the building down totally and are now rebuilding in the same location,” said Sarah Huntley, Public Relations Officer for Boulder Police.
According to Huntley, the cause of the fire was determined to be a cooking accident that took place on the southeast side of the second floor.
Susan Andre, the Resource Development Director of Thistle Community Housing, the non-profit organization that owns the apartment complex, confirmed that ten families were displaced by the fire and that Thistle Housing has helped every one of those families find new housing.
Some moved into other Thistle homes while others moved to temporary housing or complexes in Aurora.
As for the two women that were placed in critical condition after the incident, “Kaianna Kadnivink was supported by out of state family while she was in the hospital. We have no current information on Susan Moi,” Andre said.
The total losses were estimated to be about $1.3 million, according to Huntley.
