Whitney Houston should be proud with fall’s retro fashion
The leaves are falling, as well as the temperature, which means it’s time for a new wardrobe.
Although Colorado weather can be deceiving, it’s finally time to hang up those plaid shorts and summer dresses and trade them in for jeans and winter jackets.
Here are some clothing choices that will keep up with Colorado’s erratic weather while making you as beautiful as the colorful autumn scenery.
Guys:
For the guys, it’s all about looking back starting with the retro style of the ’80s. Bright colors and geometric shapes will enrich any outfit from the shoes to the sweatshirt. The idea here is to stand out. Vans shoes, as well as an assortment of sweatshirts, reflect this really well.
As far as shirts go, big lettering and throwback T-shirts are still a big trend. Who doesn’t want to wear a shirt promoting your favorite TV show from your childhood?
Moving further back in time, you’ll find yourself in the World War II era. Military-esque jackets with fancy embroidered buttons to accompany the many pockets – and I really mean many – are what you’re after here. And don’t shy away from larger sizes either. It’s actually a good thing for the jacket to be a little too big. Boots are also a good idea.
Lastly, take a few hints from your dad’s attire. You know those boring cardigans that seemed to always hold an age requirement? Well the bar has been lowered: casual, adult clothing is in. This includes wool jackets, loafers and three-button long sleeves that will keep you warm and stylish.
Girls:
The throwback to the ’80s is also prevalent in women’s style. Beyond the bright and outstanding retro colors, think about the more subtle fashion of that time. I’m sure Whitney Houston will be happy to see the popularity of oversized sweaters. Something loose that hangs off the shoulder is a more casual way to still look nice and stay warm.
Paralleling men’s style again, large buttons look great on everything, especially jackets. Right now, smaller, tighter jackets that end at your natural waistline are coming into style. Think about shrinking all the long jackets you have while keeping the button-size the same.
Jeans are always going to be in style, but this winter aim for the darker shades, and nothing too fancy. Elaborate pocket designs will add nothing to your outfits, especially since jackets and sweaters will cover them when it gets cold.
Galoshes may seem hokey, but when its cold out and you don’t want to get the bottom of your pants wet, they’re great to have. If you can find a pair that matches your outfit, these rain boots will supplement your all-weather ensemble.
And for both guys and girls, the more layers the better! For God’s sake, it’s cold outside!
