Local band plays free concert for students
Local Boulder band, The Motet, will play a free concert tonight at 7 p.m. as part of CU’s homecoming celebration.
The show will take place in parking lot 204, located behind the University Club and next to the UMC. Tonight’s show will feature covers of Prince, Michael Jackson and Stevie Wonder.
Filthy Children, a funky jazz-rock octet from Denver, will be opening for The Motet.
The Motet is Boulder-based and was formed by drummer Dave Watts in 1998. The band also features Scott Messersmith on percussion, Ryan Jalbert on guitar, Adam Revell on keyboards, Garrett Sayers on bass and Dominic Lalli on saxophone.
They are currently on tour to support their new CD called “Instrumental Dissent.”
The band’s Web site, www.themotet.net, describes their music as “fusing elements of Afrobeat, Afro-Cuban, funk, Latin and jazz.” All the music is composed by Watts, which gives the band a unique rhythm-oriented sound.
The band also plays annual Halloween shows at local venues. This year they will perform the music of Madonna on Oct. 27 and 28 at the Fox Theatre.
