CU has strived to achieve diversity on campus for quite some time.
According to the 2011-2012 CU Diversity Report released by the Office of Planning, Budget and Analysis, minority enrollment is currently at an all-time high for both undergraduate and graduate students. In the fall of 2012, 17.8 percent of students enrolled at CU were considered US minorities.
“Microaggressions and the Pipeline for Scholars of Color,” a recent article written by scholars who specialize in Scholars of multicultural studies at the University of Denver explain that prejudice creates an uncomfortable dynamic in many academic environments.
Following continuous calls for diversity, the percentage of minority enrollment at CU has increased by 4 percent since 2002. Along with the increase, programs have been implemented to make students feel more accepted, regardless of their backgrounds, including efforts by the Student Outreach and Retention Center for Equity to engage minority students.
