CU student government executives have released a statement regarding Thursday’s home football game.
According to the statement, “Thursday, October 11 at 7 p.m., our Colorado Buffaloes will be taking on the ASU Sun Devils in our home stadium. This will be a nationally televised event, and what better way to show your CU Buffalo pride than arriving early to the game and staying classy. We encourage you to have a good time and always remember you are not only representing yourself but the University of Colorado. Go Buffs.”

According to reports from the CU Police Department, at last year’s blackout game against the University of Southern California, 43 students were ejected from the game and 37 of those were the result of alcohol-related issues. Compared to the ejection rates at the other home games this semester (15-20 ejections per game and 13-14 ejections relating to alcohol), the blackout game shows a significant increase.
CUPD spokesperson Ryan Huff said that security remains like any other football weekend.
“From a security standpoint, it’s similar to any other game,” Huff said. “We are encouraging people to walk, ride their bikes, or to take the bus. Anything to avoid being in their cars.”
CUPD will be strictly monitoring the presence of alcohol on Thursday. If a student is found with alcohol at the stadium, they will be expelled from the game.
“We would like to remind people that alcohol isn’t allowed in the games, meaning you aren’t able to walk up to the gate with it,” Huff said. “You will be asked to leave.”
