Coming off of a victory against a No. 1 Michigan team, the Buffaloes men’s lacrosse club team was looking to continue their solid play in their game against the University of Minnesota Duluth Bulldogs. With the head coach still new to the program, the team had a lot to prove in front of the home crowd.
The game was close and came down to the wire, but the Buffs fell in the end by a score of 10-11 on Sunday.
The Bulldogs were ahead by three heading into the fourth quarter, but the Buffs scored three quick goals to tie it up. CU’s momentum was killed when the Bulldogs scored a goal in the final minutes to pull ahead and retain the lead.
The Buffs had many different players in on the action.
The 10 goals were scored by nine different players. Junior Darren Hulick was the only player to score multiple goals after scoring two in quick succession in the fourth quarter.
Head coach Mike Ryder said he felt the Buffs’ performance was solid but that they were unable to close.
“The looks were there, but we didn’t finish,” Ryder said.
CU fell behind by two in the early going, but stuck with it. Aside from a short lead that was only held for a few minutes towards the end of the first half, the Buffs were playing from behind for the majority of the game
Freshman Hap Knowles said that 110 percent was required when playing from behind.
“You got to have heart on ground balls,” Knowles said. “You got to want it.”
The men’s lacrosse team plays their third home game in a row Saturday against Michigan State.
