With Halloween right around the corner, students may want to get in the spooky mood by visiting a haunted house, and the most popular one seems to be the 13th Floor.
The house is located in Denver and rumors are circulating around campus that reaching the end of the house is a challenge. In fact, this place is willing to refund tickets to every 113th person who completes the haunted house.
The 13th Floor is open every day. Friday and Saturdays it is open from 7 p.m. until midnight, and every other day from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. Its last day of operation will be Sunday. Take note that the Web site informs its audience that their house may be too scary for children under 12 years old.
Since this haunted house is so popular, it is preferable to buy tickets online before heading out to Denver. CU students say they have had to suffer through the long lines because they didn’t have tickets already.
“My roommate went to the 13th Floor a couple days ago, and she had to wait in a line for at least two hours before she could get in,” said Caitlyn Houghton, a 19-year old sophomore pre-journalism major.
Even though most people say it is difficult to make it through the whole haunted house, there are certain CU students who disagree.
“I thought it was easy; it’s fine. It was scary, but not impossible,” said Leslie West, a sophomore psychology major.
Make sure to get tickets online at their Web site before heading out to Denver for the 13th Floor. Tickets start at $20.
Some CU students say they feel the steep ticket price is a deterrent from visiting the haunted house.
“I would go to the 13th Floor but it’s just so expensive. If it wasn’t so much, I would try it out,” Houghton said.
Besides the 13th Floor, there are other places to get scared in Denver. Burch Maze, located on Weld County Road in nearby Longmont, is a corn maze to go through and try not to get lost.
Even though it may be a little fake or less scary than other places, it may be a fun place to go for Halloween. CU students who have been there say they enjoyed it.
“It wasn’t really scary. It was just cheap thrills I guess. It’s not bad, I thought it was a lot of fun,” said John Lefever, a 21-year-old junior economics major.
Another one of the more popular haunted houses to visit is the Asylum House. Named by the Travel Channel as one of America’s scariest Halloween attractions in 2007, the Asylum House has the same hours of operation as the 13th Floor.
It can be visited any night of the week from 7 p.m. until 10 p.m. except Fridays and Saturdays when it is open until midnight. The Asylum is located in Northglenn, just north of Denver.
Besides all of the more popular houses are ones like Field of Corpses, in Arvada, Spider Mansion, in Golden, and Haunted Field of Screams in Thornton.
The Spider Mansion is open from now until Halloween. It is $12 to get in, and if you visit the Web site, there is a $1 off printable coupon. It opens at 7 p.m. every night.
