Boulder Police are investigating the stabbing of a CU student, according to Boulder Police Department spokeswoman Sarah Huntley.
According to Huntley, the student is out of surgery and the doctors said the injury is not likely to be life-threatening.
The stabbing occurred early Saturday morning and was reported to the police by the hospital when the victim was admitted, Huntley said. The circumstances of the stabbing are unclear, as the victim has been uncooperative with the police.
According to Huntley, the victim is a CU student. His name has not yet been released. Although the victim was uncooperative with officers, they were able to ascertain where he lives.
The police department news release revealed that upon arriving at the residence in the 1100 block of Lincoln Place, police found two men inside. One man was identified as Leo Beitz , a 19-year-old from Illinois, who when questioned became agitated and assaulted one of the officers.
“He was head-butting the police officer in the face, and when they tousled the police officer also hit his elbow on a doorframe,” Huntley said.
The news release also stated that officers used a taser to bring Beitz under control, and then took him to Boulder County Jail where he was booked on charges of obstruction and assaulting a peace officer.
Huntley has confirmed that he is not a CU student.
“The person who we booked in for assaulting the officer is not a CU student, and he’s not [the victim’s] roommate,” Huntley said.
According to Huntley, the officers found highly suggestive evidence at the residence.
“They found some other evidence at the scene, which we can’t release, but we determined that that was a likely possibility for where the crime occurred,” Huntley said. “We have not arrested anyone in connection with the stabbing itself.”
The investigation is still ongoing.
