Right now is the time to stock up on essential items for the school year. Every girl is getting her UGG boots and guys are getting their snow gear. But what trends and items are students getting that are “must haves?”
1.WATER BOTTLES
Being hydrated during the day is a must especially when living in such a high altitude.
“Don’t rely on thirst alone to tell you how much you need to drink. To keep those muscles working and avoid fatigue; it’s extremely important to drink plenty of liquids,” said an article by WebMd entitled “Drink up For Sports and Fitness,” by Kathleen M. Zelman.
The perfect way to always stay hydrated is to have that water bottle like a Camelback, Sigg, or most popular a Nalgene.
“I have a Nalgene bottle. They are much cheaper than buying bottled water and they’re better for the environment,” said Courtney Davidson a junior English major.
Nalgenes range from $7.00- $16.00 and are available at most outdoor retailers and the CU Bookstore.
2.MAC BOOK
MacBooks are flourishing around campus and are indeed the hottest technological trend.
“I think they’re great, and the majority of people have them on campus,” said Amanda Wolfe a sophomore English major.
The perfect time to purchase a MacBook is between June 3 and Sept 15. Students can purchase a MacBook or a MacBook Pro and receive a free i-pod touch or i-pod nano with a rebate. It’s also great because apple offers student discounts that can range from $100- $230 in savings.
Overall MacBooks offer students a great deal and a spectrum of different applications for organizational skills like the i-calendar application or the famous photo-booth for hours of picture taking with friends.
3.SPIRIT SHIRT
Who goes to CU and doesn’t own a CU tee shirt?
“New students should definitely have one to show their school spirit and so that they can have something to wear at athletic events,” said Davidson.
Students should have a few spirit tees in their closet especially a gold and black one for football and basketball games. Students can wear them to class when there’s nothing else to throw on.
Spirit shirts can be purchased anywhere and great deals are usually found in the beginning of the year. The perfect spirit shirt is an annual one that the bookstore offers for a great deal. Currently the bookstore is offering the 2008-2009 spirit shirt for $6.99.
4.SWEATS
Going to class can range from a couple of hours on campus to an entire days worth, but regardless comfort is an issue. That’s when sweats become a student’s uniform and best friend to keep them comfortable and warm.
“It’s easy to throw them on in the morning or just not get out of your pajamas,” said Wolfe.
What better way to keep warm and show off school spirit with the popular CU sweats! The bookstore offers Colorado sweats ranging from $32.95- $39.95 and come in a variety of colors. Sweats can also be found at bookstores on The Hill.
5.NORTHFACE
Last but not least is the ever-popular Northface. A student is not a CU student unless they own a Northface.
“I have a Northface fleece, vest, and jacket…Boulder winters are too cold to face without something similar,” said Davidson.
Northface offers a variety of styles including the popular Denali fleece that can keep someone warm on cold windy days. The Northface Nuptse is a sure bet to keep anyone warm on harsh winter days. The Northface website describes it as, “A coveted jacket among outdoor enthusiasts, the Nuptse Jacket is a classic puffy jacket that thrives in cold-weather conditions, such as those found at a Tibetan base camp.”
The downside of Northface is that it’s pretty pricey. A Denali jacket can set a student back up to $165 and a Nuptse $200.
If a Northface is desired but not the price, try looking on e-bay for some good deals on used ones, or even Craig’s List.
