Escape from homework
Now that school is back in session, many students are likely to find themselves looking for a good movie to find a little time to escape. While the new Harry Potter film is not going to be in theaters this year like originally planned, there are still plenty of films to be excited about.
Burn After Reading
Release date: 9/12/08
It seems that there is always another serious CIA movie on the horizon but “Burn After Reading” is out to change that. The film is about two typical gym employees who manage to obtain detailed CIA secret information and then attempt to profit from it. The movie has an all-star cast including Brad Pitt, George Clooney and John Malkovich.
Blindness
Release date: 9/26/08
Audiences are often eager for a new epidemic movie and “Blindness” takes a new look at the epidemic genre. When the majority of a city is decimated by sudden blindness the movie takes the typical quarantine story and freshens it. Based on a novel by Jose Saramago, “Blindness” focuses on the quarantined and their struggle for survival in a place without sight and how one immune woman (Julianne Moore) fights for those who cannot fight for themselves.
Choke
Release date: 9/26/08
This film follows Victor Mancini (Sam Rockwell) and his comical money-making scheme of choking in upscale restaurants in order to receive pity money from rich patrons. Based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk, the man who wrote “Fight Club,” this movie has been receiving a lot of buzz online and IMDB.com has labeled the trailer as one of the best of the year.
Quarantine
Release date: 10/10/08
When “Cloverfield” came out earlier this year people had a chance to see shaky filming that has not been seen since “The Blair Witch Project.” Now other movies are cashing in on the same idea. This movie is about a news crew who is quarantined with a woman who has an unknown illness, and the only item found after the quarantine is lifted is the crew’s camera with the film of what happened while the people were trapped inside.
W.
Release date: 10/29/08
Film director Oliver Stone isn’t even waiting for George W. Bush to leave office before releasing a movie about the president. “W.” follows the life of President Bush and allows audiences to see the man from a whole new angle. The movie also features an all-star cast to play the majority of Bush’s cabinet, including Richard Dreyfuss as Dick Cheney and James Cromwell as George H. W. Bush.
Quantum of Solace
Release date: 11/14/08
Bond is back. While people are still arguing about Daniel Craig’s portrayal of 007, Craig has been busy making “Quantum of Solace.” Following the storyline set up in “Casino Royale,” the newest Bond flick is about a quest for revenge. Still brooding over the loss of his love, Bond is out to settle the score and he is not concerned about how mad his agency gets, how much money he has to spend or how many Aston Martins he has to crash.
Twilight
Release date 11/21/08
While Harry Potter fans are going to have to wait until next summer for the next Potter movie, “Twilight” fans finally have their chance to see Edward Cullen on the big screen. Following the first book, “Twilight” is about Bella Swan’s love and desire to be with a vampire.
