Trilogy may be over, but story continues
Halo 3 ended the trilogy, but the Halo storyline is far from over. A new game called “Halo Wars” is already being made.
The trilogy consisted of first-person shooter games, and the newest installment takes a new direction toward a real-time strategy game.
“Halo Wars'” Web site already has a few details about the game.
According to the Web site, “‘Halo Wars’ is a real-time action strategy game for the Xbox 360 that allows the player to control large armies and to shrewdly direct them in realistic warfare. Set early in the iconic war between the Covenant and UNSC – made famous by the Halo FPS games – ‘Halo Wars’ provides a new angle on the war while bringing new heroes to the battle.”
Players will now be able to command an army of tanks to go assault an enemy base instead of driving one single tank like in the original trilogy games.
The player will no longer be forced to concentrate on single goals achieved through shooting aliens. Instead, they will have the opportunity to plan, strategize and create an all-out battle plan.
The original “Halo” game takes place in the middle of a storyline already in progress.
Since the trilogy finished the storyline, “Halo Wars” goes back to the beginning and covers the events of the Halo universe before the original game takes place.
The “Halo” story is often regarded as an important part of what made the Halo series so popular.
“What made the ‘Halo’ series so good was that it went beyond the standard (first person shooter) and actually had a story behind it. Hopefully ‘Halo Wars’ will delve more into that lore and really draw gamers in,” said Dain Cilke, 19, a sophomore engineering physics major.
Game developer Bungie created the original trilogy. “Halo Wars” is being created by Ensemble Studios, which could take the game in an entirely new direction.
“Bungie has yet to let down fans on the ‘Halo’ trilogy. Should be exciting to see if Halo Wars is of the same caliber,” said Nick Poppe, a sophomore history major.
There is no planned release date yet, but many gaming communities are expecting Halo Wars next year.
