A Pearl Street Mall Gallery displays non-traditional edge
The Art & Soul Gallery on Pearl Street has worldly sophistication and local charm exhibiting a combination of both local and internationally recognized artists.
“Colorado has a lot of Southwestern art. Not everyone wants pictures of mountains. We want to bring a more sophisticated edge to Boulder,” says Debbie Klein, the owner of the Art & Soul Gallery.
The gallery, which opened just over seven years ago, has won several awards over the years, including “Boulder’s Best Gallery” by the Boulder Weekly for 2001-2006, and the Colorado Daily’s Reader poll for 2001-2006.
As you walk down Pearl, the gallery’s hardwood floors, large windows and bouquets of fresh flowers, give the gallery its own aesthetic presence.
The gallery has a collection of artists who are featured frequently.
Mary Scrimgeour, a CU alumna, is one of the gallery’s most appreciated artists.
Scrimgeour’s work is inspired by the notebooks of Leonardo Di Vinci and her mixed media paintings illustrate the concept of invention through brightly colored mediums.
In addition, the gallery highlights emerging artists by dedicating the first Friday of every month to exhibiting work from a new artist.
Artist Jason Thielke, a Denver local, is an example of a new addition to the gallery.
Thielke works with multi-media in which he focuses on drawing, composing and then moving his work to wood. His unique style of processing reflects his appreciation of both nature and modernity.
Art & Soul’s latest exhibit includes many pieces from Thielke’s recent work, entitled CMYK. CMYK, Cyan-Magenta-Yellow-Black, references the colors in the natural color spectrum and compose his latest work.
Thielke’s work will be on display in the gallery from Sept.6 through Sept. 30.
The Gallery has exquisite paintings and multi-media, and it also has developed a collection of jewelry, sculptures and ceramics as well.
Internationally-renowned jewler Stephen Webster is currently being featured.
Originally from London, Webster has won the “Luxury Jeweler of the Year” award, four times in a row. The designer, who specializes in diamonds, is all the rage in Hollywood-Christina Aguilera is a known fan..
The gallery switches up its displays about once a month.
“We appreciate people coming in and just looking. We love talking to people about art,” Klein says.
