Final CU 70 – Tech 67
The Buffs make a couple of big plays on both ends of the court to get an edge over Texas Tech in the closing seconds of the game. Jasmina Ilic finishes with a team-high 27 points.
Hannah Skildum falls hard to the floor on the offensive end of the court, but the referees don’t make a call. Skildum takes another shot and is fouled hard at the offensive end. Head Coach Kathy McConnell-Miller is upset with the referees. The referees call a flagrant foul on Texas Tech, and Skildum makes both of her free-throws to tie the score. With the ball after the foul, Jasmina Ilic gets fouled again and makes both of her free-throws to put the Buffs ahead by two. Texas Tech answers with two buckets of their own to pull ahead of CU down the stretch.
Texas Tech began to pull away again after CU makes a few mistakes on the offensive end. Alesha Robertson has 20 points for Texas Tech, and Jasmina Ilic has 23 points for the Buffs. A 10-0 run for Texas Tech leaves the Buffs behind, but Ilic is not letting Texas Tech get too far ahead. Fouls are becoming a problem for the Buffs as Ilic has four fouls with little time remaining.
Jasmina Ilic has a nice layup to put the Buffs ahead of Texas Tech by two. Texas Tech answered Ilic’s layup with a 2-pointer of their own, but Ilic scores another 2-pointer and is starting to heat up offensively. Hannah Skildum is making plays at both ends of the court to give the Buffs an edge over Texas Tech. The game remains close with both teams playing well on both ends of the court. CU has 21 offensive and 14 defensive rebounds.
Texas Tech began to slowly pull away from the Buffs with good movement and shooting on the offensive end. The Buffs are still struggling offensively allowing Texas Tech to go on a 6-0 run in two minutes. Jasmina Ilic ends the scoring drought with a jumper at the top of the key. Whitney Houston has a nice assist to Hannah Skildum to keep the Buffs within reach of Texas Tech and start the Buffs on a 6-0 run of their own to tie up the score.
Texas Tech continues their hot steak. The Buffs are hanging around thanks to free throws from Kara Richards. CU is still rebounding the basketball well, another reason they’re keeping pace with Texas Tech’s hot shooting. Free throw shooting has improved already for the Buffs this half. Susie Powers has a nice layup to tie the score.
Halftime CU 32- Tech 34
Texas Tech hits a jumper at the buzzer to leap ahead of the Buffs by two at halftime. The Buffs free throw shooting is dreadful after the first half, making only two of 10. Texas Tech is shooting 56 percent from the field, making it hard for the Buffs to keep up. CU has a slight edge on the boards with 21 rebounds to Texas Tech’s 19. Jasmina Ilic is leading the Buffs in scoring with nine points.
Hannah Skildum hits a jumper and gets fouled to pull the Buffs ahead. She missed the free throw but Kara Richards grabs the rebound for the Buffs. Richards gets fouled but misses both free throws. The Buffs force another big turnover on defense but again can’t capitalize on the opportunity. CU would get another chance when Jackie McFarland gets fouled and makes one of her free throws.
Jasmina Ilic drained another 3-pointer from the corner to clamp down on Texas Tech’s lead, but Texas Tech anwsered back with a 2-pointer. Hannah Skildum hits a jumper for the Buffs to pull within one of Texas Tech. The Buffs forced another turnover on the defensive end before a timeout.
The Buffs are having a hard time keeping up with the red-hot shooting of Texas Tech. Texas Tech is shooting 50 percent from the field while the Buffs are only making 36 percent of their shots. Jackie McFarland gets a turnover on the defensive end, but the Buffs can’t capitalize on the opportunity.
CU’s Bianca Smith nails a 3-pointer to tie the score, but Texas Tech answers with a two pointer to pull ahead again. Smith drains a 2-pointer to tie the score again. Smith lights up the court again, getting a quick seven points in two minutes. The Buffs are starting to look better on the offensive end of the court, but Texas Tech is hot from the field.
Texas Tech starts to pull away when Alesha Robertson hits a jumper. Jasmina Ilic is two of four from the field with three rebounds. The Buffs are having a hard time making buckets on the offensive end.
Jasmina Ilic drained a 3-pointer from the corner to come within four of Texas Tech. Texas Tech was dominating the boards, which made it hard for the Buffs to keep up. But Jasmina Ilic dropped another 3-pointer to pull the Buffs within one of Texas Tech. Texas Tech anwsered with a bucket of their own.
The Buffs jumped to an early 2-0 lead when Kara Richards grabbed a rebound and drained a 2-pointer. Texas Tech would only answer with a 3-pointer to take the lead. Texas Tech started to make an offensive push, jumping ahead of the Buffs 11-4.
