A new study reveals that Colorado has the sixth-highest concentration of women business owners relative to its female population.
The research by performance marketing agency SimpleTiger analyzed the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) Office of Advocacy’s 2024 and 2025 Small Business Profiles to identify where women-owned businesses are most concentrated across the country. The study calculated each state’s two-year average number of businesses owned by women (2024–2025). It ranked states by the average number of women business owners per 1,000 female residents aged 15 and above.
Colorado ranks sixth with an average of 115 women business owners per 1,000 female residents aged 15 and above, 8.49% higher than the national average of 106. The Centennial State has 2,462,043 female residents aged 15 and above and an average of 282,447 businesses owned by women across 2024–2025.
Looking at the study, a spokesperson from SimpleTiger commented,
“Colorado’s ranking points to an ecosystem where lifestyle-driven consumption meets strong professional services and a healthy startup culture. Women-owned businesses often scale by aligning with values-based customers, building subscription or membership models, and using partnerships to expand beyond one city.”

Methodology
The research pulled state-level counts of “businesses owned by women” from the SBA Office of Advocacy’s 2024 and 2025 Small Business Profiles. For each state, the study calculated the average number of businesses owned by women for the period of 2024–2025. It then computed the average number of women business owners per 1,000 female residents aged 15 and above and ranked all 50 states from highest to lowest. The national average used for comparison was 106 women business owners per 1,000 female residents aged 15 and above.
