CU reported this morning with its new text message alert system that electrical power was down in at least some campus dormitories early today. The Campus Press has received at least one confirmed report from Farrand Hall that power was restored at approximately 7:15 a.m.

Boulder police arrested a man today in connection with an attempted armed robbery that took place at 805 29th St. just after 3 a.m. this morning, according to police.
The alleged victims, a man and woman, were not injured in the attempt. The woman said she was dropping off a friend when a man approached the driver’s side of the car, pointed a gun and demanded money, according to police.

The family of Kenton Astin, the former UMC employee arrested Monday on suspicion of cutting the throat of a freshman student and then stabbing himself multiple times, said Astin has a history of mental illness. Family members were stunned to learn what had happened, said Don Buckley, Astin’s father.

According to a Colorado Bureau of Investigations report, Kenton Astin’s record includes charges of attempted first-degree murder, possession of a controlled substance, assault and felony menacing.
