Folsom Field is ready to rock Saturday as the Colorado Buffaloes will play their first true home football game of the year. You know what that means? Time to break out the grill, the corn hole boards and some lawn chairs. Or if you’re in college, time to crank some tunes on the lawn and play some outdoor beer pong. Rumor has it that important members of the athletic staff were out at a few college tailgates last year, so may you crank a list of contemporary bangers for the suits.
WHY I PICKED WHAT I PICKED AND WHY YOU SHOULD CARE:
1) Who Dat – J. Cole: One of his early tracks and still one of his best. If you’re looking to get your group going for the tailgate put this classic banger on.
2) Under Ground Kings – Drake: It may not have the known Drake chorus like some of his other jams but his flows are perfection on this track.
3) By Any Means – ScHoolboy Q: A hidden banger from his new record, Q could get any group of guys screaming to this song.
4) Don’t Like – Kanye West: The remix to Chief Keef’s biggest song, is about all those things you don’t like. Let’s hope you channel this energy on the opposing team.
5) The Recipe – Kendrick Lamar, Dr. Dre – The three Ws to life aren’t restricted to just California. In fact, it works really well with Boulder too. Hopefully for the school’s Buffaloes, they’re able to add a fourth W.
6) Hate It Or Love It – The Game, 50 Cent: “Let’s take ’em back,” to the start of rap the way we know it today. The Buffs, underdogs, are (gonna end up) on top, at least you hope.
7) Somewhereinamerica – Jay Z: One of Jay’s best flows of the past 10 years. Magna Carta wasn’t much of success but this song will have you feeling successful.
8) Diamonds Dancing – Drake, Future: “I’m at a stage in my life where I feel like I can conquer anything and everything.”
9) Can’t Tell Me Nothing – Kanye West: The classic banging hype song. Good for absolutely all occasions, including this one.
10) IV. Sweatpants – Childish Gambino: It’s your tailgate, but “are you eatin’ tho?”
11) No Hands – Waka Flocka Flame: I talked about getting the guys going earlier, this is the jam that gets the ladies going.
12) 679 – Fetty Wap: Well, this one is for everyone, don’t act like you can’t get down to Fetty.
13) PMW – A$AP Rocky: I won’t repeat the lyrics in text but A$AP and ScHoolboy Q are two modern rap gods. This song is one of their best of their many collaborations.
14) Aston Martin Music – Rick Ross: Maybe a little bit toned down, but not every song can make you want to do a keg stand.
15) Paper Trail$ – Joey Bada$$: DJ Premier has many great beats, but this is one of his best, featuring a relatively new artist.
16) All Night – Chance The Rapper: Chance, arguably the artist of 2016, this is his most turnt song off his beautiful record Coloring Book.
17) Rigamortus – Kendrick Lamar: Nobody goes as hard as Kendrick does on this song. In debatably his best flow out of any of his published work, KDot proves why we call him King Kendrick.
18) Goldie - A$AP Rocky: A$AP’s modern rap flow is fully on display here. Mixed with beat fetishism, this is pretty much peak rap in the 2010s.
19-20) Actin Crazy – Action Bronson and Ima Boss – Meek Mill: Everything that was just said about the last track can be said about these two.
