With a cornucopia of live music to enjoy, the Denver-Boulder area is one of the major music and entertainment hotspots in the country. On this list are upcoming shows for this weekend and the shows further down the road that will likely sell out.
The weekend selects:
The duo known as The Floozies will be bringing their funk-infused electronic jam style to the Ogden Theatre Saturday. GIBBZ, who has sung on tracks for Gramatik and Exmag, will be opening for The Floozies at 9 p.m.
SHEL is a captivating folk band from Fort Collins comprised of four sisters who are pretty amazing. SHEL is great not just because they are all talented singers and musicians, but also because they create such a warm environment at their shows. If you go, expect to see lots of smiles and hugs. The drive to Fort Collins is very worthwhile to see such an enchanting band in their hometown.
The electronic artist known as RJD2 will be playing at the Fillmore for those electronic fans who aren’t interested in getting trapped out at Winter on the Rocks with Damian Marley and Major Lazer. RJD2 is what some might call a pure DJ. He uses a huge range of sounds to accompany his smooth melodies and highly danceable beats. It’s the type of electronic show you can go to and not worry about a sixteen-year-old vomiting bile and molly onto you.
Even though they are not music, Second City is a premier improv comedy troupe that will be preforming at The Boulder Theater Friday night. This is the same company that has graduated people like Steve Carell, Amy Poehler, Steven Colbert and Bill Murray, just to name a few. Second City is as good as improv comedy gets. If you like to laugh, you will enjoy an evening with Second City.
All this weekend, UllrGrass will be taking place at Parfet Park in Golden. This bluegrass and beer festival, named after the Norse god of snow, will have its first annual celebration Thursday through Sunday. The lineup is filled with up-and-coming blue grass bands and artists, but the main event will be Head for the Hills Saturday night. This Colorado bluegrass quartet has been voted best blue grass band in Colorado in 2010 and has only grown in prowess and prominence since.
These are the shows coming next weekend that have a good chance of selling out. If you want tickets you will likely have to act fast:
Next weekend, February 7, Ben Howard will be at the Fillmore Auditorium. Howard’s acoustic heartfelt sound has been critically acclaimed and his now rapidly growing fan base makes his shows consistent sellouts. The soothing British folk singer will be on at 7 p.m. and there are no announced openers.
The legendary jam band moe. is touring in celebration of their 25th anniversary. Both Friday and Saturday night shows at The Ogden are expected to sell out. They are playing another night at The Fox next Thursday before the shows at the Fillmore, but the only way to get into the show at the Fox is to buy the full three-day pass.
While again not music, Hannibal Buress is doing two shows on February 19 at the Boulder Theater. Buress has become a major name in standup comedy since his first full hour special in 2010. His casual tone and well thought out jokes have been heard across the late night circuit and even made his way to preform with other comedians at Red Rocks last summer. The 7 pm. show is already sold out, but the 10 p.m. show still has tickets available for the time being.
