The shooting, which according to city officials was an alleged robbery, has left 20-year-old Todd Maclain Walker of Edwards, Colorado dead. Walker was not a CU student.
At 2 a.m. on Friday, Walker and female were walking home near 10th and Pennsylvania streets when another male approached them, according to a news release.
The suspect who approached the pair was said to have a black bandana covering his face.
The release stated that the female pulled back the bandana from the suspect’s face after a physical and verbal confrontation.
Kim Koval, public information office for the Boulder Police Department, said right now it is too early in the investigation to tell how the attacks were initiated.
The suspect pulled a gun and fired one shot into the air. A second shot was fired, hitting Walker. The female was not injured.
Walker was pronounced dead after being transported to Boulder Community Hospital. His identity was released today after an autopsy by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office.
The suspect was last seen running from the area. He is described as a 5’10 white male, clean-shaven, with blondish-brown hair. The report says that he was wearing a black jacket with an “Analog” logo over the left breast.
Police are seeking witnesses to the event and believe that it is possible that the suspect may have attended the same party that the Walker and the female were walking from.
“What we don’t know is if the suspect in this case could have possibly been at one of these parties,” Koval said. “That’s why we’re asking people if they recognize the jacket or the composite sketch, to contact us and let us know who that person might be.”
A campus-wide e-mail was sent out from the University of Colorado Police Department this morning issuing a safety advisory for the CU community, providing a composite sketch of the suspect.
“The University of Colorado Police Department is advising the campus to remain alert and vigilant to strangers or unusual situations during spring break,” the e-mail said. “CU police have increased patrols on campus and housing officials are working with residence hall students who are remaining on campus during spring break and advising them to take extra precautions while on campus.”
