The University of Colorado women’s basketball team seemed to have a fighting chance against Kansas State minutes before the end of the first half.
Leading 23-22 with 5:12 remaining, the Buffs were unable to keep the momentum going. It was the last time the Buffs would lead the Wildcats in Wednesday’s match-up at Bramlage Coliseum.
The Buffs lost 78-51 in what could be their final meeting with K-State. CU’s record falls to 12-12 overall (3-8 Big 12). K-State improves to 17-7 (7-4 Big 12).
Only one Buff finished in the double digits–sophomore guard Chucky Jeffery, who came away with 18 points.
The teams traded off on runs in the first half, but K-State ended up having the game-deciding run.
Colorado lead by 11-8 before K-State went on a 10-0 run. CU answered by snatching up a 23-22 lead after a 12-4 run of their own in the first half.
The Wildcats closed the first half with 20-4 run, going into the break with a 42-27 lead.
The Buffaloes narrowed KSU’s lead to 48-36 after a 7-0 run, but just couldn’t stop the Wildcats. In the closing ten minutes, CU trailed by as much as 30 points.
The Buffs remain on the road to face No. 20 Iowa State at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19.
