If you want to submit an event, happy hour or bar special, or a weekly shindig that we may have missed (hey, we’re not perfect!), please e-mail the contact at the bottom of the article. Until then, read on, friends, and find your folly for the second week in February.
Happy hour at Centro
Centro gets the CU Independent stamp of approval for kicking off the week with happy hour all day on Mondays. Cuba Libres and Modelo Especials for $2, margs and wine for $4 and food dishes ranging from $2 to $4 should surely please your wallet, if not yourself entirely.
Taco Tuesdays at Juanita’s
With its doors shutting on March 1, you have a limited amount of time to take advantage of one of the must-eats in Boulder. The fine people who “Praise the Lard” will take care of you with drink and food specials starting at a measly $1. The cheapness goes from 9 p.m. to midnight.
CU men’s basketball takes on the Texas A&M Aggies
Buffaloes! Grab your black and gold and go support your Buffs as they take on the Texas A&M Aggies at the Coors Events Center at 7 p.m. Tickets range from $5 to $20. Go Buffs!
UMC Nite Bite
Think you could be on “Man vs. Food?” Well, let’s take it easy here. Start off with this spicy chili-eating contest at the Tabor Grill (inside the Alferd Packer Grill in the UMC). Come by at 5:30 p.m. to see how hot you can go; the hotter the chili you eat, the more chances for great prizes! Better yet, this is all free!
Rent, the Musical at the University Theatre
If you’ve never seen a theater production at your university, “Rent” should take your theater-going virginity. The popular, envelope-pushing musical by Jonathan Larson is being brought to you by your fellow students. With songs like “Seasons of Love,” “La Vie Boheme” and more, “Rent” challenges you to re-think your life in ways you never could. Tickets for students are $14. Get them soon, “Rent” is sure to sell out. Showtimes are February 10 through 12, 16 through 19, and 23 through 26 at 7:30 p.m. Matinees will be on February 20 and 27 at 2 p.m.
Afro-Zep and 56 Hope Road at the Fox
Here’s something new for ya: an afro-beat tribute to Led Zeppelin. Oh yeah, it’s gotta be good. Tickets are $7 in advance, $9 at the door and an extra $2 if you’re under 21. The show starts at 9 p.m. and there will be a special guest.
Program Council presents: “Paranormal Activity 2”
A sequel to the wildly-popular and freaky “Paranormal Activity,” “Paranormal Activity 2” doesn’t disappoint in making you jump and instilling fear in you from the most normal of things (a kitchen in broad daylight, for one). It’s free, in Chem 140 and starts at 9 p.m. Bring a friend or three whom you can scream with.
