We celebrated a great day in more ways than one for the University of Colorado when we announced the hiring of Colorado native Tad Boyle as our new head men’s basketball coach on Monday.
Our announcement coincided with a long revered tradition of the CU Greek community, Songfest, which is held in conjunction with Greek Week each year. We are proud to host Songfest at the Coors Events Center, and the doors opened soon after the conclusion of our introductory press conference for Coach Boyle on the plaza outside the Events Center.
I was honored to serve as a guest judge for the event and the leaders of Songfest graciously allowed us to introduce Coach Boyle to their audience and demonstrate the class, energy and sincere affection the student body has for the university and gave him, his wife Ann and children Jack, Pete and Claire, a memorable welcome as well as an always spirited version of our CU Fight Song. This type of encouragement and expression of school spirit from our beloved students was inspirational to our new coach, his family and me. It was a reminder that we can always count on our heartbeat of the institution, our students, to make a difference.
I can’t stress enough how important our students are to the CU Athletic Department, and the Greek community in particular has shown a real dedication to our efforts. The leadership, passion and excitement this collection of students showed touched his family’s heart and made them feel they are an integral part of our community from day one.
I would like our Greek members to know that their love for our great institution does not go unnoticed and is cherished by the athletic program. I am most appreciative and proud of these great leaders in the Greek community. Lest I forget, the show was special and I salute everyone’s hard work and commitment to the tradition of Songfest!
Go Buffs!
