Sophomore Emily Talley knows a little something about improvement. And now she has the hardware to prove it.
After a string of strong performances in March, Talley was named the Big 12 Golfer of the Month by the conference on Tuesday. She was selected alongside Dylan Frittelli of Texas in the men’s category.
She is the first Buff to win the award during the 2009-10 season and the fourth Buffalo to earn the accolade.
California-born Talley began her successful March campaign at the San Jose State Spartan finishing with with a 1-under 7 par, propelling her from 33rd place to an 11th place tie finish in the final round.
Her finish in San Jose was followed by matching her career best at the Entrada Classic in BYU, as she carded a 6-over par 222. The score equalized her freshman finish at the Big 12 Championships last season. She would finish in a tie for 6th place.
Only a few days later, she and her fellow Buffs traveled to Tucson, Ariz., for the Mountain View Collegiate Invitational. There, Talley outperformed herself yet again after tying for 3rd place.
Her two top 10 performances this season total to seven in her career, enough to tie for fourth place as the most in school history.
Talley and co. will travel to Bloomington, Ind., to begin their participation in the 2010 Indiana Invitational on Friday.
