After a great season against non-conference opponents, the Colorado Buffaloes tennis team has struggled against Big 12 conference foes.
The Buffs lost their second Big 12 match of the season on Sunday, losing 5-2 to the Iowa State Cyclones in Ames, Iowa.
Colorado (7-5, 0-2 Big 12) is now 0-2 in conference play and marks the first time since 2003 that the Buffs have lost their first two Big 12 matches.
Seniors Monica Milewski and Camila Belassi did not play for the second straight match for CU.
In No. 1 doubles, senior Melisa Esposito and junior Abbie Probert defeated Erin Karonis and Jenna Langhorst 8-6 for CU’s only win in doubles play.
CU’s only victories in the singles matches against the Cyclones (7-6, 2-1 Big 12) came when sophomore Michala Hedelund Jensen defeated Tessa Lang 6-4, 7-5 in No. 3 singles, and sophomore Ania Anuszkiewicz defeated Langhorst 6-3, 6-1 in No. 4 singles.
The Buffs will now host No. 20 South Carolina on Saturday at 11 a.m. The match is scheduled to be played at the South Campus Courts in Boulder.
