It is not how you start the race, but how you finish it. Or in this case, how you finish the course.
The CU women’s golf team will look to improve on their 13th place finish after day one of the Northrop Grumann Regional Challenge in Palos Verdes, Calif. The Challenge, which is the Buffaloes first tournament of the spring season is taking place at Palos Verdes Golf Club.
Southern California is currently in the lead after the first round in the 15 team field.
Sophomore Taylor Doyle is currently the highest-placed player for Colorado tied for 21st with her shooting a 3-over par 74 on the day.
Buffaloes’ head coach Anne Kelly said Doyle’s play was a lone bright spot in her team’s play on Monday.
“We didn’t play particularly well,” Kelly said in a news release. “But Taylor played really well. She’s a talented player and has been working hard and it’s definitely paying off for her.”
Lindy Duncan of Duke and Jennifer Song of Southern California currently lead the field with firing a 4-under par 67.
Four other Buffs competed in day one with sophomore Emily Talley tied for 39th, senior Christine Kim tied for 49th, senior Julie Kim tied for 73rd and senior Dominique Pytlewski in 80th.
The second round of three rounds will begin on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. MST with a shotgun start due to incoming weather.
