This is your last chance to vote on CU Independent’s “End of the Decade” series. The fate of the final five movies, live music performances TV shows and album nominees are in your hands. Today, whose album will you choose to fill the last two spaces in our Top Ten?
1. “Breakaway” by Kelly Clarkson (2004): The first “American Idol’s” sophomore album soared to new heights with five singles including the soft “Because of You” and the pop-rock sounding “Behind These Hazel Eyes” and “Since U Been Gone,” which earned her two Grammy Awards.
2. “Timbaland Presents Shock Value” by Timbaland and Various Artists (2007): Record producer extraordinaire Timbaland displayed a variety of catchy tracks with numerous artists which reached from many sides of the music industry including Keri Hilson, Nelly Furtado, Justin Timberlake and OneRepublic who performed on “The Way I Are,” “Give It To Me” and “Apologize,” respectfully.
3. “All the Right Reasons” by Nickelback (2005): One of the most successful mainstream rock albums of the decade received a B from “Entertainment Weekly,” sold over nine million copies worldwide and spawned seven singles including “Photograph,” “Rockstar,” and the heart-breaking “If Everyone Cared.”
4. “Continuum” by John Mayer (2006): Singer-songwriter John Mayer’s fourth studio album was received extremely well by critics such as “The New York Times” and “Rolling Stone” and fans alike. The band album was nominated for three Grammy awards and won two. It also spun out numerous hits including “Waiting on the World to Change,” “Belief,” “Gravity” and “The Heart of Life.”
5. “Want” by 3OH!3 (2008): The second studio from the Boulder/Denver based electronic hip-hop band reached the “Billboard 200,” performed three times during the Vans Warped tour and unleashed two mega hits including “Don’t Trust Me” and “Starstrukk.”
