Neither the Colorado Buffaloes men’s nor women’s cross country team can claim they are the better team.
According to a news release Tuesday, both teams are each ranked sixth in the final U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association Coaches Top 30 poll.
The men’s squad dropped a spot after finishing second at the NCAA Mountain Region Championship on Saturday. BYU moved from 14th to the Buffs’ former perch after defeating CU by a point.
The women’s team stayed where they were even though they won the women’s regional championship for the first time since 2006. Senior Jenny Barringer became the first CU female to win the individual regional title since 2004.
On Monday, Barringer and company will be eyeing a bigger prize; the Buffs will compete at the 2009 NCAA Championship at Terre Haute, Ind. Barringer has never won an individual championship at this event, finishing second in 2006 and 2007. The men’s race will begin at 10:08 a.m. followed by the women’s at 10:58 a.m. The meet can be seen on the Versus Network or online at NCAA.com.
