The second week of the National Football League saw a couple of former Colorado Buffaloes make their mark in some key wins. It may be early in the season, but who knows when those victories may come in handy.
Here are a few Buffs who made contributions Sunday:
Michael Lewis, San Francisco 49ers safety: Lewis’ game-high nine tackles, including one for a loss, helped the undefeated 49ers knock off the Seattle Seahawks, 23-10, in a battle for first-place in the NFC West.
Donald Strickland, New York Jets cornerback: Strickland left with an ankle injury in the third quarter and didn’t return in the Jets 16-9 upset over the New England Patriots. He had six tackles before departing.
Chris Brown, Houston Texans running back: Brown’s 12-yard run with a minute and 25 seconds left in the game helped seal the Texans 34-31 win against his former team, the Tennessee Titans. He had eight carries for 25 yards.
Mason Crosby, Green Bay Packers placekicker: Crosby made 1-of-2 field goals, but converted three extra-point attempts in the Packers 31-24 home loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Crosby connected from 45 yards in the fourth quarter but missed a 55-yarder wide left at the end of the first half.
Jordon Dizon, Detroit Lions linebacker: Dizon had one tackle in the Lions 27-13 defeat to the Minnesota Vikings. The Lions became the fourth team in NFL history to lose 19 straight regular season games.
What to watch for on Monday Night Football: Unfortunately, nothing, since there isn’t a CU alum on either the Indianapolis Colts or the Miami Dolphins.
