Zack Shapiro, 19, creator of the “RTD Mobile Bus Times” iPhone application, spoke about the future of his newly approved iPhone application at a GO Boulder conference on Tuesday evening at the West Senior Center in Boulder.
“Update 1.1 is now in development,” Shapiro said. “I’m shooting for it to be up before Halloween.”
His mobile bus times application provides Boulder residents access to bus schedules and routes from Boulder to Denver.
The application was approved by Apple on Sept. 4 and is now available in the Apple Store for $1.99.
Shapiro, a sophomore journalism major, said the update he is currently working on will include a new interface and will incorporate Boulder local buses, the Buff Bus and the five most popular Denver buses.
“I want it to be faster and better,” Shapiro said. “It’s important for me to get every bus out there to help more people.”
Alexandra Corey, a 21-year-old senior communication major, said she would definitely buy the application because it would make traveling to Denver a lot easier.
“My friends and I always take the bus to Denver for Rockies games, shows and concerts, and it would be so awesome to have all the bus times right in my phone,” Corey said.
M.L. Robles, GO Boulder coordinator for the Newlands neighborhood, applauded Shapiro for his environmentally-sound concept.
“One thing you are doing that is really cool is that you are eliminating paper,” Robles said.
Shapiro said he is excited for more people to start using his application and he urges Boulder residents to let him know if they want their particular bus to be included.
“I want to cover all the bases to make something I’m proud of, that everyone will want to use,” Shapiro said.
