After beating Fairfield on Friday at the Yale Invitational, CU knocked off Georgetown in four sets Saturday morning.
The Buffs got off to a hot start and led 11-3 midway through the first set. However, they weren’t able to hold on as Georgetown scored 22 of the last 29 points to take the first set 25-18.
CU learned its lesson in the next two sets by going up 20-14 both times and winning both sets 25-17. In the fourth set, the Hoyas didn’t go down quietly and even had set point to force a fifth and final set. But the Buffs fought them off to score the last three points and win the fourth set 26-24.
Later in the evening, CU and Yale fought for the right to win all three games at the Yale Invitational.
Unfortunately for the Buffs, it was never a battle as the Bulldogs won easily in straight sets, 25-22, 25-11 and 25-9.
“Overall, this weekend was productive in that we picked up two road wins and were able to compete against some quality teams,” Buffs head coach Liz Kritza said on www.cubuffs.com. “Every match this season will be a test and we fared decently, two wins and a tough loss.”
Outside hitters Becah Fogle and Kerra Schroeder were named to the all-tournament team for their performances.
The Buffs leave New Haven, Conn., a .500 team at 3-3. They now return home to co-host the Colorado Invitational with DU. The two-day tourney will begin Friday at DU before making its way to the Coors Events Center.
“We are excited to finally play at home after starting off this season with six road matches and traveling cross-country two weekends in a row,” Kritza said. “That is a lot to ask from any team.”
