Why kill when you can just block?
That was the plan for the CU volleyball team on Friday as they recorded a season-high 18 blocks as they beat Fairfield University in straight sets (29-27, 25-20, 25-19) at the Yale Invitational.
“As a team, blocking was a highlight tonight,” said CU head coach Liz Kritza in a news release. “Coaches stressed improvement in blocking systems and it was apparent tonight, which we will continue to seek improve in as we move forward. It is good to see practice transfer to competition in this area though.”
Freshman middle blocker Nikki Kinzer led the Buffs (2-2) with six block assists, while freshman outside hitter Kerra Schroeder had five. Schroeder also added seven kills and eight digs versus Fairfield (2-2).
Though it was a block party, CU still had their fair amount of kills as they finished with 28. Sophomore outside hitter Becah Fogle led Colorado in kills with 10 and recorded her first double-double by adding 10 digs as well.
Next up for CU will be a doubleheader today as they will take on Georgetown at 9 a.m. (MST), and then the host Yale at 5 p.m. (MST) before heading back to Boulder.
