The season is still young, but so is the Colorado Buffaloes volleyball team.
The inexperienced Buffs couldn’t stop the carnage against Northern Colorado and fell in straight sets, 25-20, 25-17, 25-16, in Greeley on Tuesday. The loss dropped CU to 1-2 on the year.
In the first set, both squads were tied at 15, but the Bears used a 5-2 run to propel them to a first-set win.
Unfortunately for CU, that turned out to be the theme of the night as UNC broke a tie at 14 in the second set with six unanswered points and took a commanding 13-6 lead in the final set on the strength of a 8-1 spurt.
“We were put in some tough situations tonight and these young players had to learn their way out,” head coach Liz Kritza said to www.cubuffs.com. “It was evident in some spots as we were able to close up the score, but they were just too persistent in their transition offense and kept pulling away from us.”
Sophomore Becah Fogle led the team for the third straight game with 11 kills while senior Kaitlyn Burkett handed out 17 assists.
CU will hit the road this weekend to New Haven, Conn., for the Yale Invitational. On Friday, they will double-dip as they play Fairfield at 3 p.m. and Georgetown at 9 p.m. On Saturday, they will face Yale at 5 p.m.
