Wide receiver Andre Simmons will play football for the Colorado Buffaloes.
CU Sports Information Director Dave Plati sent an e-mail to the media Wednesday afternoon saying that Simmons, a transfer from Independence Community College in Kansas, “has been cleared by all those necessary to practice, effective immediately; everything is good to go.”
Simmons reported with the rest of his teammates to camp on Aug. 6. He attended some practices but was unable to participate until his eligibility issues were cleared. Simmons was cleared to enroll in fall semester classes Monday, but the school withheld any formal announcement of his clearance until they were 100 percent certain.
But now that Simmons is allowed to join the rest of his teammates, his 6-foot-3-inch, 210-pound presence may be sorely needed since the Buffs have only one returning starting receiver in junior Scotty McKnight. Furthermore, Markques Simas has been suspended for the first two games of the season.
During the recruiting season, Simmons was listed on the Rivals.com junior college top 100 list as the No. 35 player overall and No. 6 wide receiver. He earned first-team All-Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference last year.
