CU students say they feel positive about Barack Obama’s first 100 days of presidency.
Talia Brown, a 23-year-old senior biochemistry major, also said that she feels that Obama has done a good job thus far.
“I like that he has stepped up and has done the things that he said he’d do in his campaign and has been honest about the things he hasn’t done yet,” Brown said.
Brown also said that she feels that the presidential cabinet is “mostly good” and that she would like to see Obama “really take health care on.”
“I’d like him to go after insurance companies to make sure they are more responsible,” Brown said.
She also said that she would like Obama to prevent a nuclear Iran.
Brian Bernatis, a 19-year-old sophomore biology major, said that he is unsure what to think.
“I don’t think it’s been long enough to judge,” Bernatis said. “I liked the debriefing on interrogation. I think it was a good job there.”
Bernatis said that he only heard of a few of Obama’s cabinet members.
“There are some good choices,” Bernatis said. “I haven’t heard much about them so I can’t say good or bad. They will do fine.”
Bernatis also said that Obama is trying to keep his word.
“He is definitely trying to do what he promised,” Bernatis said. “The economy is big. I haven’t seen the big changes, but [Obama] has to fix the economy first.”
Bernatis also said that he would like more talk about higher education reform.
Dorian Kammann, a 20-year-old junior international affairs major, said he did not vote for Obama, but he is “better than expected.”
Kammann said that an important issue for him is improving relations with the European nations.
“Bush neglected that,” Kammann said. “We need to reestablish relations with countries such as Germany.”
Kammann also said that he is skeptical about the bailout plan.
“We have tried bailouts before and they don’t work,” Kammann said. “I think it’s a waste of money.”
Brown also said she is worried about the bailout plan.
“He didn’t start [the economic crisis]—he is trying to fix a flawed system,” Brown said.
