According to a CU News Alert E-Memo from President Bruce Benson, the sole finalist for chancellor has been selected.
Dear Members of the University of Colorado at Boulder Community,
I have selected Dr. Phil DiStefano as the sole finalist for the chancellorship of the Boulder campus.
Dr. DiStefano has the integrity, experience and skills to lead CU-Boulder through the challenges it faces and to build on the campus’ stature as one of the top public research universities in the United States. He is a team player and I have every confidence in his abilities and complete trust in him personally.
I spent considerable time with the search committee and other university constituents during the process. He was a strong consensus choice of the search committee and has received significant support from many on campus and off.
In the next stage of the search process, he will meet with key university stakeholders, including faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors and the community. We will schedule a series of interviews and forums beginning this week and continuing through next. I intend to make a decision on the position before May 8.
CU-Boulder faces some significant issues, including budget challenges, the upcoming NCA/HLC re-accreditation process and implementation of the Flagship 2030 strategic plan. We conducted an internal search because I believe we have talented and proven leaders on campus who could provide continuity and a steady hand during this important period in CU’s history.
Dr. Distefano exemplifies the talent and leadership we need. He has a deep understanding of the campus and the issues it faces, as well as a broader view of higher education in Colorado and nationally. He has demonstrated his abilities in good times and bad and has worked tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to guide the campus through significant challenges.
I would like to thank the faculty, emeritus faculty, staff, undergraduate and graduate students, alumni and donors who served on the search committee, which was deliberate and thorough in its work. I would also encourage the campus community to provide input at the upcoming interviews or directly to me at officeofthepresident@cu.edu.
