Boulder police released a sketch of the man accused of breaking into a Boulder apartment and sexually assaulting a resident on Jan. 23.
“Police were called to the scene about 3:45 in the morning. A woman who lives on Ninth and Pleasant found an unknown man molesting her breasts,” said Sarah Huntley, a Boulder public information officer.
Huntley also said that the assaulter ran out the balcony when he realized that the woman was awake. Police do not know how he entered the house.
No one is in custody for the assault to date, Huntley said. She went on to say that there are also no significant leads in the case but the victim worked closely with police to release the sketch.
Bree Lewis, 18, a freshman math major at CU, said that she takes precautions to avoid assault like walking with friends.
“I hear about sexual assault all the time. It definitely affects my life on campus,” Lewis said.
Sophomore engineering major, Jeremy Nash, 19, lives off campus with another male roommate and two female roommates. He also takes precautions to avoid break-ins.
“We always lock our doors and close our shades, especially when we aren’t home,” Nash said. “We also keep an eye out for sketch people.”
Huntley advised that people should always keep all doors locked and should lock their windows, as well. She also mentioned that curtains and shades should be shut after dark and to look out for people observing habits and schedules.
Huntley concluded, “Do not open the door unless you know who it is. Be aware of your surrounds.”
