Finding the perfect sunglasses
Sungasses are a small accessory that can help you hide or stand out. They can be worn everyday of the week and no one would even think to mention it, while other accessories worn this way could make you a faux paw victim.
Sunglasses can be a fashion statement or a classic staple.
“Retro styles and the large Hollywood glasses are pretty popular right now,”Greg Bair-Caruso, 26, sales person at College Optical on the Hill said. “While aviators have never gone out of style.”
Sunglasses can also be an accessory to an everyday outfit.
“I like styles and how you can change your appearance with just sunglasses, but I prefer the retro shades,” Jeremy Walker, 21, sophomore economic student said.
Choosing sunglasses can be a challenge. It can be difficult to find glasses that flatter the shape of your face and also meet style standards.
“I take a little of both Hollywood inspiration and whatever I like when I pick out new glasses,” Gaby Corica, 21, junior psychology and Spanish major said.
Whether you wear your sunglasses at night or just to protect your eyes, sunglasses can make more than just a statement or subtle addition to your appearance.
“I like everything about sunglasses,” Corcia said. “Putting something between you and everyone else, I like that.”
Sunglasses can protect your eyes and meet your needs for your everyday life.
“Almost all sunglasses are supposed to block 100 percent of UVA and UVB,” Bair-Caruso said. “Polarized lenses are good for anyone around glare, like water, snow or even driving. There are different tints that have different functions, like brown is better for color contrast but not the best for bright lights. Grey is best for bright colors but not the best for color contrast. Then there is rose tinting that is great for bright light and for color contrast.”
There are many different kinds of sunglasses one can buy. It is important to go shopping for sunglasses with an idea in mind.
“When helping someone pick out their sunglasses you have to ask them what they are looking for, see if they are looking for something sporty or fashionable, just a lot of yes and no questions,” Bair-Caruso said. “For sunglasses you need to go a hair wider than your face, or it tends to look goofy. It does not always work that round faces look good in round frames although they can, sometimes the juxtaposition of a square frame and a round face looks good too.”
Like the adage says, form follows function. Sunglasses in Boulder is not exempt.
“For fashion versus function, in Boulder fashion wins,” Bair-Caruso said.
