New military game now available
While game developer EA Montreal may be known for creating sports games, the company also does a great job with third-person shooters and the new game “Army of Two” is no exception.
In the game, two players or one player with a computer ally can play as either Eliot Salem or Tyson Rios. The two characters are private contract mercenaries with training from the army among other modern military organizations who are sent in to fight in Iraq.
The mercenary aspect of the game brings in a fun array of weapons that players have the option of buying with the money earned from each mission. Upgrading purchased guns can be a blast by switching around the barrel, stock, magazine size and other things for certain prices.
The fighting and combat of the game are decent but the controls are not optimally set up.
For example, in order to throw a grenade the character has to switch off of the primary weapon and then will most likely miss the target due to the grenade’s horrible inaccuracy.
Another problem is there is no way to sprint other than the moderately fast running pace. It also does not help that some AI bosses seem like the Terminator since they just walk and shoot without attempting to find any cover.
In contrast to the flaws, the game does has its strengths.
The ability to draw enemy fire off of the other player or computer ally is innovative and fun to use in certain parts of the game. In single player mode, the gamer can also give to his or her computer teammate commands such as attack and hold position, which adds a nice sense of realism to the game.
Like most games currently available, “Army of Two” also has online capabilities.
The game allows for two to four players online. Online play is based on a number of objectives that each team competes for to ultimately score more points and win. As each objective is completed by one of the two teams, that team earns a certain amount of money.
Dying costs a team money unless the deceased’s partner can find and heal the other teammate. The team with the most money at the end of a period of time wins.
The look of the game can be as vital as the playability, and “Army of Two” delivers.
During the game there are some scenes that have better graphics than the new Rambo movie, both in the sense of realism and grotesqueness.
The game comes with a mature rating and pushes what is even acceptable at that rating.
